#How long is game of thrones s08e01 update
I'll update this post with any further thoughts. I'm just sad that we only have five episodes left before this entire show is over. I was feeling very nervous about this season after last season's myriad problems, but this was a great start. prosthetics for maimed knights or something. But Jon doesn't want to be king, and maybe the Seven Kingdoms don't need a central authority to begin with.

I think it matters as a test of Dany's character. I'm honestly not sure if Jon's new claim to the Iron Throne matters, no matter how cool that scene was.She doesn't need to lift a finger anytime soon. Why does she even need expensive mercenaries? Why not just wait and let Dany and Jon fight the Night King and enjoy her relative peace in King's Landing. I'm still not sure what Cersei's grand plan is.I'm not sure what Bronn will do, but I suspect it won't come to that anyways. He wasn't allowed to finish, however, because Qyburn showed up and offered him chests of gold to kill Jaime and Tyrion, on Cersei's orders. This show just can't get away without some T&A, so we had a whole scene with Bronn and not one, not two, but three prostitutes.Buckle your dragon-saddle-seat-belts people.Ī few scattered thoughts before we part ways: I'm pretty sure next week will up the ante, and by Episode 3 we'll have some truly crazy stuff going on. But remember this: Game of Thrones season premieres are almost always slow burns. Jon got his truth-bomb delivered in the Winterfell crypt. Theon saved his sister, something she was unable to do for him while he was Ramsay Snow's prisoner. It wasn't the most exciting or action-packed episode, but that moment between Sam and Jon gave me goosebumps. It didn't have any of the really stupid stuff that punctuated so much of Season 7. Overall, I really loved this season premiere. Jon is unfailingly good, even if he's a bit dense at times. Dany often does the right thing but I'm not sure she ever does it for the right reasons. He is more concerned with, if not justice, then compassion. Jon would be a better king than Daenerys a queen.

I'm curious to see where this revelation takes us. She will likely not even believe it-if, of course, Jon tells her. But Jon trusts Sam more than anyone else in the whole world, and so when Sam tells him that his father was Rhaegar Targaryen and his mother Lyanna Stark, no matter how badly Jon doesn't want to believe, he has no choice.ĭany will not be pleased. "I'm not his brother," Bran says, which is both true and symbolic of Bran's change to the Three-Eyed Raven. Bran, of course, had to tell Sam to tell Jon. So he was ready for some truth-telling and ready to question Jon's loyalty to his new queen. Of course, Sam had just learned that Dany executed his (awful) father and (decent) brother from Daenerys herself. Sam told Jon the truth about his parents. The second big moment was something I wasn't expecting to happen tonight at all. Jon did fine, too, but if I were him I'd insist on a saddle and harness, with a safety tether for good measure. Jon and Tyrion were top contenders, but now we know the truth. First off, Jon went dragon-riding! For years, everyone has been theorizing who would ride the other two dragons. She's said she wants to "break the wheel" and achieve true change, but all she's doing lately is ensuring her status as queen and shoring up her power.Ī couple very big things happened in tonight's season premiere. Daenerys's insistence on making Jon bend the knee was arrogant and more than a little ridiculous. I don't blame Sansa for not liking Dany, however. As Tyrion explains to the assembled lords and ladies, and as Jon explains to his sister, Sansa (who is rivaling Cersei for the title Ice Queen these days) it was either bend the knee and gain powerful allies, or come back empty handed and let the North fall. He bent the knee to Daenerys Targaryen, and many in the North feel betrayed. Jon Snow has returned, but not as King in the North. I think Cersei needed sex more than Euron, though, and she gave in without much persuasion.īack in the North, all is not roses and sunshine. At first she refuses his affections but he's quite persistent. He's "the most arrogant man" Cersei has ever met, which is also apparently a pretty big turn-on for her.Įuron finally gets to bed the queen this episode, after bringing her the Golden Company (sans elephants). His scenes with Cersei were fun, if only because Euron is a breath of fresh air as far as this show's villains go. She was captured by Euron Greyjoy, her murderous uncle, who occupies most of the non-Winterfell plot in tonight's episode.
